Dagnine, once a general in Xena's army, is seeking the Ixion Stone which contains the evil essence of the centaurs. Hearing that Xena is in the area, he wants to find out what she is up to. He spies on her and finds out that Solan is her son. He and his army kidnap Solan to ensure that Xena does not interfere with his plans. Xena attempts a rescue but she and Solan fall into some underground caves which is where the Ixion Stone was hidden. It is gone. Dagnine and his men follow Xena into the caves and they try to capture Xena and Solan but Xena throws up a rope and she and Solan begin to climb out of the caves. Solan drops the sword he is carrying; the sword that belonged to Borias. A stone falls out of the sword and Dagnine realises that it is the Ixion Stone. Xena has already climbed out of the caves so Dagnine now has the stone.

Dagnine's magic user prepares the stone and concocts a potion for Dagnine, who drinks it. Meanwhile, Xena and Kaleipus are preparing the village against the inevitable attack. Xena confronts Dagnine, who has been transformed into a huge, powerful centaur. She tries to anger him whilst the centaurs ready a giant crossbow. Dagnine taunts Xena, boasting that he was the one who killed Borias. Xena gives the signal and the crossbow is fired, straight at Dagnine. Dagnine collapses to the ground, dying.

Xena bids farewell to Solan, deciding not to tell him that she is his mother. He now realises that she did not kill Borias and they part as friends. Tearfully, Xena walks away from Solan.

Synopsis:
Xena protects the Furies' temple and, as a reward, she is granted a chance to live her life again, before she became a warrior. Xena finds herself back in Amphipolis with her brother, Lyceus but discovers that her mother is dead. It soon becomes clear to Xena that all is not well in this existence as three powerful warlords, Mezentius, Krykus and Caputius, have banded together in order to take control of all the surrounding villages. Slavery is an accepted part of life and Xena is shocked to find out that Gabrielle is a slave who is distrustful of Xena's motives. When Xena rescues her, her fiance Maphias betrays her and Lyceus believing he is protecting them and Xena, Lyceus and Gabrielle are imprisoned.

Maphias comes to the prison disguised as a soldier. He rescues Xena and the others but during their escape Lyceus disappears. Xena, Maphias and Gabrielle rush to the banqueting hall where they find Lyceus confronting the three warlords. Lyceus urges Xena to pick up a sword but she refuses, knowing this present life will end if she sheds blood. However, when Gabrielle plunges a sword into Mezentius, Xena realises that she would rather go back to her old life than see Gabrielle murder someone, so she deliberately picks up a sword and kills someone, saying her goodbyes to Lyceus. Suddenly, she finds herself back at the temple with Gabrielle. The young boy she killed previously appears and rushes at Xena but this time she does not use her sword and she gets him to promise he will give up fighting, therefore, giving him another chance at life.
