Jace
Joxer and Jett's other brother who is apparently an embarrassment to his parents. Jace was seen in Season Five's "Lyre, Lyre, Hearts on Fire".
Jacobson, Rick
Director for "The Dirty Half Dozen", "Sacrifice II", "A Good Day", "Locked Up and Tied Down", "Between The Lines", "Succession", "Animal Attraction", "Back In The Bottle", "Livia", "Motherhood", "The Abyss" and "The Ring".
Jacques S'er
Actually the clever disguise of a brush salesman from New Jersey (see "The Xena Scrolls").
Jake
The real name of the dog in the episode "Old Ares Had A Farm". Ares named him Horace.
Jana
Princess Jana, the sweetheart of Prince Agranon is kidnapped by Mezentius who plans to sell arms to both sides once they wage war on each other (see "The Path Not Taken"). Xena meets up with an ex-lover, Marcus and persuades him that she is still the same Xena he remembers and, therefore, is interested in making a profit from the kidnapping. Marcus takes Xena to Mezentius, who agrees to Xena's terms. Once Xena gets the chance, she attempts to smuggle Jana out of Mezentius' lair but is caught by Marcus. Unable to persuade Marcus to change sides, Xena attempts to carry out her rescue but Mezentius arrives and tries to kill the princess. Marcus, however, takes the arrow instead and Jana is saved and reunited with her fiance.
Janice Covington
The tough archaeologist who is living in the shadow of her father's disgraced memory and is determined to find the long-lost Xena Scrolls (see "The Xena Scrolls"). When she encounters Ares in his tomb, she believes she is a descendant of Xena but is devastated to learn that she is, in fact, related to Gabrielle. "Think, irritating blonde", Ares suggests to her. It is a humbling experience for her to learn that it is not Callisto he is referring to!
Japan (Japa)
Japan is mentioned by a harem girl in "Who's Gurkhan?". However, she does not refer to it by name but calls it "the land of the rising sun". It is the setting for "A Friend In Need I" and "A Friend In Need II". In the former episode, Xena refers to Japan as Japa.
Jett
Joxer's dangerous twin brother, an assassin by trade and the pride of his parents. He teases Joxer mercilessly, although he is surprisingly protective of his brother. When Joxer is threatened in "The King of Assassins", Jett saves his brother's life, even though he could have used the opportunity to escape. Jett has not been heard of again so far, although we know he is serving a prison sentence for his attempt on Queen Cleopatra's life.
John Smythe
John Smythe is a treasure hunter who is greedily interested in the Xena Scrolls (see "The Xena Scrolls"). When he steals the map which points to where the scrolls are, Janice agrees to team up with him, but once she and Mel have found the scrolls, his only concern is for getting the credit himself. Unfortunately for him, he awakens Ares from his tomb and he and his men are destroyed.
Jonathan
Son to King Saul, he is killed in battle against the Philestines (see "Giant Killer").
Jones, Gary
Director for "The Greater Good", "Giant Killer" and "Intimate Stranger".
Joxer
Joxer the Mighty - er, not quite. Joxer first appears in "Callisto" when he tries to offer his services as a warrior to Xena. When she rejects him, he tries to join Callisto's army and, as a test, promises to kidnap Gabrielle and bring her to Callisto. To say he fails miserably would be an understatement. Even so, whilst incredibly inept as a warrior, Joxer has shown himself to be extremely loyal and surprisingly brave. Although contemptuous of Gabrielle at first, he has grown to love her as more than just a friend but sadly (for him) his love is unreciprocated.
After Xena and Gabrielle disappear from the face of the earth in "Looking Death In The Eye", Joxer settles down with Meg. When he meets up with Xena and Gabrielle again he is an old man and has several children (see "Livia"). He and his son, Virgil accompany Xena and Gabrielle as they track down Livia (see "Eve"). However, when Livia captures Gabrielle, Joxer tries to rescue her so Livia kills him instead.
Joxer appears as a ghost in "Looking Death In The Eye" but this turns out to be a trick, instigated by the Furies, to persuade Gabrielle to kill Eve. His last appearance is in the Season 6 episode "Soul Possession".
Joxer has awarded himself a number of titles, such as Joxer the Dangerous ("King Of Assassins") and Joxer the Magnificent ("Return Of Callisto", "Warrior, Princess, Tramp", "Intimate Stranger"). However, his most well-known title is that of Joxer the Mighty. This is first referred to in "For Him The Bell Tolls" but is also mentioned in "The Play's The Thing", "Kindred Spirits" and "Eve".
Julius Caesar
The ruthless Roman who is set on conquering the world. In her days as a pirate, Xena kidnapped him for ransom but became his lover (see "Destiny"). After he was released, he came on board Xena's ship and she, believing he would not harm her, told her men to lower their weapons. As a result, he took Xena and her men prisoner and crucified them all. He broke Xena's legs and left her to die. Luckily, Xena's friend, M'Lila had escaped and she rescued Xena from the cross. Unfortunately, M'Lila was killed by roman soldiers whilst protecting Xena. Ever since, Xena has been seeking revenge against Caesar.
Xena manages to stop Caesar from destroying Boadicea's army in "The Deliverer" and she also enjoys a small victory when he is forced to execute Crassus instead of Vercinix in "When In Rome".
Caesar is not to be trusted. He even betrays those who are loyal to him. Xena warns Brutus that Caesar is intending to send him off to fight in Gaul and does not expect him to return (see "Ides Of March"). Brutus does not believe this until Caesar gives him the orders to march on Gaul. Angered by this betrayal, Brutus, together with his supporters, attack and kill Caesar.
