Fairy Gods-Sister
In Xena's tale (see "If The Shoe Fits") Gabrielle is the fairy gods-sister who offers to help Tyrella (Xena). When Tyrella asks the fairy to sort out the dishes in the story, Gabrielle flips, angry that Xena seems to view her as nothing more than a skivvy. Fortunately, Xena and Gabrielle's story has a happy ending.

Fairy Tales
In "Key To The Kingdom" there is reference to "The Three Little Pigs", whilst "If The Shoe Fits" parodies "Cinderella" and also contains a reference to "Pinocchio".

Fates, The
Clotho, Lachesis and Atropos. The ancient Greeks believed there were three Fates who arbitrarily controlled the birth, life and death of everyone. They were called 'The Cruel Fates' because they paid no regard to anyone's wishes. The Fates first appear in the episode "Remember Nothing", when they transport Xena to a time that might have been had she not become the Warrior Princess. In this episode, she refers to them as 'The Maiden, The Mother and The Crone'. They are seen again in "Sacrifice I", "Sacrifice II", "God-Fearing Child" and "Looking Death In The Eye".

Fawcett, John
Director of "The Way", "Fallen Angel", "Them Bones, Them Bones", "The Rheingold", "Return Of The Valkyrie" and "When Fates Collide".

Feast Of Zeus
This feast was mentioned in "The Black Wolf". The execution of 'The Black Wolf' was to be the main attraction at the feast.

Fedele Jody
Co-editor of "Return Of The Valkyrie".

Field, Robert
Editor of "Chariots Of War", "Cradle Of Hope", "Prometheus", "Death In Chains", "A Fistful Of Dinars", "Mortal Beloved", "The Prodigal", "Altared States", "The Greater Good", "Callisto", "Giant Killer", "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun", "Return Of Callisto", "A Solstice Carol", "Destiny", "A Necessary Evil", "A Day In The Life", "The Execution", "Blind Faith", "A Comedy Of Eros", "Been There, Done That", "The Deliverer", "The Debt I", "The Debt II", "Warrior, Priestess, Tramp", "Maternal Instincts", "The Bitter Suite", "King Con", "When In Rome", "Fins, Femmes And Gems", "Tsunami", "Sacrifice II", "Adventures In The Sin Trade I", "Adventures In The Sin Trade II", "A Family Affair", "In Sickness And In Hell", "Past Imperfect", "Daughter Of Pomira", "Devi", "Ides Of March", "Succession", "Animal Attraction", "Them Bones, Them Bones", "Who's Gurkhan?", "Legacy", "Dangerous Prey", "To Helicon And Back", "Many Happy Returns", "When Fates Collide" and "A Friend In Need II".

Fields, Peter Allan
Writer of "The Reckoning" and "Death Mask".

Fighting
Something the Xenaverse wouldn't be the same without. The fight scenes in Xena are a major part of the show and add much to its entertainment and appeal, whether Xena is cracking heads on the battlefield or doing gravity-defying leaps.

Fire Maker
The cannibal responsible for building the cooking fire in "The Abyss". He also appears to be the shaman of the tribe, as he is the one who heals Gabrielle's wound. He too dies in the canyon flood, along with the rest of his tribe.

Fire Of Purification
In "Fallen Angel", whilst she was at the halfway stage between Heaven and Hell, Xena had to walk through the 'Fire of Purification' in order to enter the ranks of the Archangels.

First Citizen
One of the villagers of Amphipolis who confronts Xena when he discovers Draco's army is approaching, carrying Xena's banner and shouting her name. He continues to believe Xena is Draco's girlfriend until Draco approaches the barn where the villagers are hidden and demands to know where Xena is. Following the fight between Draco and Xena, the villager tells Xena she can take whatever she wants for supplies but she refuses, saying she wants nothing from him.

First Guard
One of Tarsus' guards, who announces the arrival of Myopia the fence (Gabrielle in disguise) who is interested in bidding for the statue of Pax (see "Vanishing Act").

First Rhein Maiden
The Rhein Maiden who takes a shine to Xena, who is intent on getting her hands on the Rheingold (see "The Rheingold"). The Rhein Maiden declares to her sisters that she is in love and begs Xena to join in their play. Xena pretends that she wants to become a Rhein Maiden too and asks her new 'friend' to show her where the Rheingold is hidden. Once the Rhein Maiden has done this, Xena takes the Rheingold and hits the poor girl in the nose before leaving with her prize.

When Xena returns to the lake with the Rheingold, the Rhein Maiden and her sisters recognise Xena and try to escape from her. Xena reassures them that she is not there to harm them and that she is returning what she stole from them (see "Return Of The Valkyrie").

First Siren
One of the three sirens, who are the servants of Poseidon. At his bidding, they try to tempt Ulysses into throwing himself overboard, thereby preventing him from returning home. See "Ulysses".

First Viking
The leader of a group of vikings who are badly outnumbered and are thinking of retreating from their enemies so they can live to fight another day (see "The Rheingold"). Xena persuades him and his men to think again, asking if they want to return to their villages as cowards and telling them that they should fight on to the end, in the name of Odin. In response, the viking and his men (all six or so of them!) charge over the hill to meet their foes and each and every one of them die in the ensuing battle.

First War Of The Centaurs
The first war between the Amazons and the Centaurs. In the episode "The Quest", we hear that Velasca's mother was killed in this war and that her daughter was adopted by Queen Melosa.

First Xena Warrior
One of the warriors that Xena encounters in her dreamscape (see "Dreamworker") who is seen shouting her name and glorifying in the blood of the slain.

Fishing
Xena fishes a lot. Sometimes she's obsessed with fishing (see "Fins, Femmes and Gems") and seems to be able to catch anything, using the most unusual of methods (see "A Day In The Life"). She also seems to be quite handy at using her hard-earned bounty as weapons of war (see "The Quill Is Mightier").

Flipper
One of Crustacea and Hagar's three strange children in "Married With Fishsticks", Gabrielle's watery dream of life as a mermaid!

Flipper has the face and flippers of a sealion. He and his brother, Urchin play lots of tricks on Gabrielle/Crustacea but Gabby puts her foot down and gives them a piece of their mind. After that, they start to show her some respect and even help her out in the kitchen!

Flora
Flora is Xena's childhood friend. She is a strong and independent woman, yet Xena has to remind her of the importance of having faith in herself. In "The Black Wolf" Flora is imprisoned by Xerxes for aligning herself with a resistance group called 'the Black Wolves' and Xena pretends to help Xerxes discover who their leader is. When Xena tries to help her escape, Flora refuses to leave without her friends and Xena quickly realises that the 'Black Wolf' is none other than Flora herself.

Flying Horses
Flying horses appear in the episodes "The Rheingold", "The Ring" and "Return Of The Valkyrie". They are the mounts of The Valkyrie.

Flying Parchment
Although invented by Xena (Ha, you thought it was the Chinese!) it was Gabrielle who gave it its name. In "A Day In The Life", it is used to great effect as a lightning conductor to kill the evil giant, Gareth. Xena has a little trouble getting it airborne at first but eventually it works. In the episode "Fins, Femmes And Gems", when Xena becomes obsessed with fishing she uses her flying parchment to catch the great fish Solaris.

Footrot
Experienced by Gabrielle in "In Sickness And In Hell", after traipsing through a swamp.

Forest Of The Titans
Burial place of the Ribs of Cronos.

Foster, Nora Kay
Teleplay (Co) for "Chariots Of War", "Death In Chains", "Beware Greeks Bearing Gifts" and "The Xena Scrolls". Story (Co) for "Death In Chains" and "Fins, Femmes And Gems". Co-Writer for "Ties That Bind", "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun", "For Him The Bell Tolls", "Blind Faith", "King Of Assassins", "Warrior, Priestess, Tramp", "Fins Femmes And Gems", "In Sickness And In Hell", "If The Shoe Fits" and "Lyre, Lyre, Hearts On Fire".

Fountain Of Strength
The fountain was located on Mount Fuji. This is where Gabrielle had to take Xena's ashes and sprinkle them in the fountain in order to return Xena to life. She had to do this before the second sunset after her death (see "A Friend In Need II").

Friedman, Liz
Story (Co) for "A Family Affair". Co-writer of "To Helicon And Back" and "Many Happy Returns".

Fugate, Katherine
Writer of "When Fates Collide".

Full Moon Ritual
According to the episode "Kindred Spirits", this ritual required the Amazon Queen (Gabrielle) to "show the glory of her form" (i.e. naked and covered in mud) to the moon. This was an important ritual for the Amazons that would bring them good fortune. Sister Wolf (the Queen) must howl at Sister Moon until Sister Sun chases away Sister Moon (i.e. all night). It has to be said Gabrielle was not happy with certain aspects of this ritual.

Fungus
After the footrot came the rest of the fungus (see "In Sickness And In Hell") which spread over Gabrielle's face and body. The cure appears to be goat poo!

Furies, The (Furiae)
The Roman name for the Greek Erinyes. Said by Hesiod to have been the daughters of Gaia (the Earth) and to have sprung from the blood of Uranus. Other accounts claim they are the daughters of Night or of Earth and Darkness. There were three in number: Tisiphone (Avenger of Blood), Alecto (The Implacable) and Magaera (The Jealous One). They were merciless goddesses of vengeance and punished all transgressors, especially those who neglected filial duty or claims of kinship. Their punishments continued after death.

In "The Furies", they are requested by Ares, to judge Xena for not avenging her father's murder. Xena is found guilty. After the judgement, Alecto petitions the gods to curse Xena with madness and persecution. Later, Xena cleverly convinces the Furies that Ares is, in fact, her real father and therefore there is no murder to avenge. On hearing this, Alecto is clearly annoyed with Ares and removes Xena's curse.

The Furies are next seen briefly in "Motherhood", when Athena summons them to torment Gabrielle over Eve's killing of Joxer. They enter Gabrielle's head, reminding her Eve killed Joxer and so deserves to die. Eventually, this drives Gabrielle insane and she tries to kill Eve as a result. Seeing this, Xena chakrams Gabrielle, realising too late it was the work of the Furies that drove Gabrielle to attack her daughter. Their sinister job done, the Furies depart from Gabrielle's head.

The Furies' final appearance to date was in "Coming Home". Enraged at the deaths of the Olympian gods, the Furies are determined to exact their revenge on Ares by driving him mad. They are also interested in becoming the new rulers of Mount Olympus. They appear to Ares disguised as Xena, Gabrielle and Eve and persuade him to attack the Greek Amazons. When Xena interferes and nearly disrupts their plans, they redouble their efforts of manipulation. However, they leave Ares' head once Xena appears to have drowned under the ice. Somehow Xena appears to have anticipated this and her chakram strikes them down. They disappear in a puff of smoke, presumably chakramed out of existence.
